Direct from New York and celebrating their 25th anniversary, world-renowned Complexions Contemporary Ballet returns to Auckland this May showcasing their distinctive brand of sheer passion, awe-inspiring skill and pure physically set to the iconic soundtracks of musical maestros - J.S. Bach and David Bowie.
Across two stunning dance works, sixteen phenomenal dancers from the prestigious company, led by world renowned choreographer Dwight Rhoden and dance virtuoso Desmond Richardson, will take to The Civic stage for five breathtaking performances which reviewers have described as a ‘sublime fusion of dance and exquisite ballet technique’. Set in two acts, the first an awe-inspiring dance to the classical works of Bach, showcasing the technical perfection, musicality and versatility of the company; the second is a dazzling homage to the iconic and chameleon spirit of David Bowie, fusing his greatest hits to form a rock-inspired ballet in his honour.
This year will see the Complexions Contemporary Ballet celebrate their 25th anniversary with a gala ball in New York City. Well known as one of the world’s most progressive and respected dance companies, the company has performed to audiences all around the world. Of Bach to Bowie, Broadway World called the show ‘A timeless piece of contemporary art’, while Billboard Magazine described the show as ‘inventive, emotionally satisfying and just plain joyful’ and the company ‘utterly transfixing’.
Auckland Live director Robbie Macrae looks forward to welcoming the company to Auckland in May. “Auckland Live is dedicated to bringing the world’s most innovative and dynamic performing arts companies to Aotearoa, New Zealand. ‘THE FRONT LAWN’ REUNITES TO BRING CLAYMATION KIDS SERIES ‘KIRI AND LOU’ TO LIFE
The friendship between two prehistoric creatures (Kiri, a feisty little dinosaur and Lou, a gentle, dreamy creature) has rekindled the creative partnership of two of NZ’s best loved artists, Harry Sinclair and Don McGlashan, who collaborated in the 80s as musical comedy performance duo ‘The Front Lawn’.
Aimed at children aged 3-7, and set in the prehistoric forest of Aotearoa, Kiri and Lou is a gently humorous series, helping children (and their parents!) learn to handle their emotions. Written and directed by Sinclair (Topless Women Talk About Their Lives, The Price of Milk) and with songs co- written with McGlashan, an all-star cast has assembled for the project. Jemaine Clement voices the role of Lou, with Olivia Tennet playing Kiri, and Kiwi favourites Rima Te Wiata, Jaquie Brown, Josh Thomson and Mark Wright also lend their vocal talents to the ensemble cast.
Producer Fiona Copland has teamed with Sinclair and with world class animation director Antony Elworthy (lead animator on Wes Anderson’s recent Isle of Dogs) to form a new stop motion animation studio, Stretchy, based in Christchurch. The studio has attracted top animators from around the world and is presently underway with a second series of Kiri and Lou.
“We are trying to make something truly beautiful for kids, which celebrates New Zealandness, and draws the audience into a charming world where kindness rules,” says Sinclair.

Twenty-seventeen went on to be a wild ride of sold-out concerts in North America and Europe, glowing press, accolades from a slew of fellow artists from Elton John to Nikki Sixx to Justin Bieber, millions of YouTube video plays and Spotify streams, two #1 EPs, a Gold record in Canada, and most importantly, the genesis of an extraordinary connection with their fans.

JessB scored nominations for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Artist at the New Zealand Music Awards, all thanks to her impressive debut EP Bloom. Avondale emcee MELODOWNZ released his double EP Melo & Blues and the High Beams mini album with Illbaz and Raiza Biza to high praise, with both releases recorded at Red Bull Music Studios Auckland; and Church Leon made waves alongside AP with their self-assured single ‘Ready Or Not’.
Red Bull Music 64 Bars is curated by David Dallas, who brought the idea to life in 2015 after being inspired by international rap series like Sway’s ‘Five Fingers of Death’ challenge and Charlie Sloth’s legendary ‘Fire In The Booth’.
“Just as a rap nerd myself, I've always enjoyed watching things like this,” says David Dallas. “I was just like, ‘why isn't there something in New Zealand like that?’”
Red Bull Music Studios Auckland is where it all began, with every single performance filmed and recorded on site. 23 of New Zealand’s best up-and-coming lyricists have now come through the Auckland studios in the first seven seasons – and last year it went global, with hip-hop artists from Japan and South Africa taking part in the renowned series.
“We're trying to shine a light on talented artists that deserve it. That's it,” says David Dallas. “If you like seeing people rap, and if you appreciate the craft of lyricism, then this is something you'll enjoy.”

ANGUS AND JULIA STONE TO HEADLINE CONCERT SERIES IN NELSON, NAPIER AND NEW PLYMOUTH
Award-winning Australian folk rock/indie duo Angus and Julia Stone fly our way in March to headline the Harvest Moon concert series across Nelson, Napier and New Plymouth.
Following the release of their fourth studio album ‘Snow’ last year which features the lead single of the same name and the follow-up track ‘Chateau’, the duo completed a hugely successful sold-out tour of Australia. Now it is New Zealand’s turn.
Angus and Julia has secured themselves a staple name in the indie realm over their twelve-year career. After growing up in Sydney in 2006 where their musician father encouraged the siblings musical talent, Angus and Julia moved to London in 2006 where they recorded their second EP Heart Full of Wine in their flat. Their four albums have amassed multi-platinum sales and numerous ARIA and APRA awards at home, and won a fanbase of millions over spiralling tours of the UK, Europe and North America. The band have over 5 million listeners who tune in each month to stream their music from all over the world. They’ve also played at some of the worlds biggest festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, & Austin City Limits.
The album Snow continues a process the siblings began at the suggestion of producer Rick Rubin on their self-titled album of 2014. “That was the first time that we actually started writing together, in the same room, and I guess we took a leaf from that chapter into this record. This time round though, every song on the record we wrote together” Angus says.
The latest we’ve heard from them are two acoustic covers - one of Drake’s ‘Passionfruit’ for Triple J’s iconic Like A Version, and another of 5 Seconds of Summer’s recent hit ‘Young Blood’. The two soulful jams are nearly at a combined two million streams within a few weeks of their release.
The last time New Zealand hosted the Aussie siblings was back in December 2017, when they came on their Snow tour and performed in iconic theatres across the country. This time for the Harvest Moon tour, they are playing beautiful outdoor locations across some of New Zealand’s most picturesque towns - ideal for the warm March weather.
In addition, Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist Jack River will make her debut appearance in NZ at all three shows, alongside New Zealand favourite Bic Runga, who will be performing in Nelson and New Plymouth dates, with further support to be added.

NETSKY TO TOUR NEW ZEALAND IN 2019
Belgian DJ and producer and honorary Kiwi NETSKY (aka Boris Daenen) has announced his return to our shores this February for five massive solo shows across NZ, playing Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Hamilton, ending up centre court at Auckland’s ASB Arena in Feb/March 2019.
Netsky first fell in love with NZ when he made his debut in NZ at Rhythm and Vines in 2010. Since then he has returned six times to play at the festival, hired a Kiwi tour manager (Josh Smith) and even answered the call of duty when friend Dan Carter asked him to DJ at the All Blacks’ official after party when they won the World Cup in 2015. 2019 is set to be the biggest year of Netsky’s career to date and Kiwis have the honour of being the first to see him debut his Palmtrees & Powerlines world tour right here in NZ. Promising cutting-edge production, special effects, mind blowing pyrotechnics and visuals this is a show set to push boundaries and tickets will sell out.
Since arriving onto the scene in 2009, Netsky has performed some of the world's most iconic clubs, arenas and festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Ultra and Tomorrowland. He has released three acclaimed studio albums and collaborated with international artists at the top of their game such as Macklemore, Emeli Sande and Jauz. Netsky has also worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, and Jack Ü resulting in iconic remixes that have become synonymous with sunshine and good times the world over.
At the beginning of 2017, after the sad passing of his father, Netsky made a decision to go off the grid and take a break from music. It was during this time, on a short trip to LA that Netsky was offered a 4 hour session with with prestigious producers Stargate (legendary for making monumental hits for Beyonce, Coldplay, Charli XCX and more). The initial four hour session turned into a year long project, collaborating with A-list artists and a new sonic direction emerging. Feeling ready to bring his focus back to his art, Netsky threw himself back into his music with this latest single ‘Ice Cold’ with French DJ and producer David Guetta a small taste of what he has to come.
Signing with Republic Records, the powerhouse label who represents Post Malone and Taylor Swift, Netsky is set to release his new album, Palmtrees & Powerlines in early 2019. In a first-of-its-kind partnership between Republic Records and Casablanca Records, the album is set be two distinct parts – Palmtrees is set to feature infectious pop music as Netsky diversifies his sound, while Powerlines delves into the darker, heavier side of his music, bringing the club tracks he’s known for to the table.

BOYZONE BRING THEIR THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT FAREWELL TOUR TO NEW ZEALAND
After a quarter of a century together, the iconic Boyzone recently announced it’s time to say goodnight as they prepare for their farewell tour of the UK. Kiwi fans will also get a chance to say goodbye to them in April next year when the Irish superstars hit our shores.
Boyzone were one of the most endearing groups to emerge from the “boy band” music sphere and 90’s commercial pop. They also happen to be one of the most successful bands in Ireland and the UK. The group have sold 25 million albums worldwide, played stadiums & arenas all over the world, went onto release six albums and had almost two-dozen hits (including six No. 1 singles & five No. 1 albums). Boyzone have also seen great success in NZ where their hit singles became staples at pop radio in the 90’s – songs such as Picture Of You, No Matter What, Love Me For A Reason and Father & Son.
In conjunction with the tour, Boyzone have just released their final album Thank You & Goodnight last Friday though Warner Music. The album finds them collaborating with some very special guest songwriters in the shape of Ed Sheeran (Because) and Gary Barlow (Love). Producers on the album include Xenomania’s Toby Scott, John Shanks (Take That, Westlife), young Swedish hitmakers Goldfingers and Steve Soloman (James Arthur, Jason Mraz).
The album features 12 brand new tracks and the band are excited to share a very special tribute to Stephen Gately in the shape of a new song I Can Dream. Boyzone came across a demo that Stephen originally recorded for his solo album in 2002 and they’ve had the opportunity to re-work the song and add their harmonies alongside his lead vocal.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to farewell Boyzone!
