One of the world’s most powerful and enduring musicals, Miss Saigon, comes to life in Aotearoa in 2027, with G&T Productions presenting a spectacular semi-staged concert production in Wellington and Auckland.
The production will open in Wellington at the Michael Fowler Centre from Friday 12th March, before heading to Auckland’s Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre from Friday 2nd April, bringing the epic score of Miss Saigon to life through the incredible NZ talent touring to both centres, a 40-strong local choir and a live orchestra.
Created by the legendary songwriting team behind Les Misérables, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, Miss Saigon is a sweeping tragedy of love, sacrifice and survival set against the turmoil of the Vietnam War.
At its heart is the story of Kim, a young Vietnamese woman who falls in love with American soldier Chris. When Saigon falls, they are separated, leaving Kim to raise their son alone and wait for Chris to return. Their story unfolds alongside the Engineer, a ruthless survivor determined to escape Vietnam in pursuit of his own version of the “American Dream”.
The roles of Kim and the Engineer will be played by Maya Handa Naff and Kyle Chuen, bringing extensive musical theatre and stage experience to two of the production’s central characters. Handa Naff, an American actress now based in Aotearoa, has previously played Kim in the United States. Additionally, Laurence Mossman will take on the role of Thuy, returning “home” to New Zealand after playing the role in the Australian and international tours of Miss Saigon.
G&T Productions producer Grant Meese says the concert format offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience the extraordinary score of Miss Saigon in a way that puts its music and performers front and centre: “There is something incredibly powerful about hearing this music performed live by an exceptional orchestra, a large choir and some of New Zealand’s finest musical theatre talent. We can’t wait to bring this production to audiences in Wellington and Auckland in 2027.”

Miss Saigon will feature an epic score including some of musical theatre’s most recognisable songs, including I’d Give My Life for You, Why God Why, Bui Doi and The Movie in My Mind.
The production marks G&T Productions’ third concert-style musical following Chess in 2022 and The Music Man in 2023, both staged at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre. It will be the company’s first concert production to be presented in both Wellington and Auckland. Following on from recent successful collaborations, G&T Productions' is proud to be partnering with both Capital Theatre Trust in Wellington and North Shore Music Theatre in Auckland in presenting this concert production.
Further casting announcements will follow at a later date, with local choir and orchestra members joining the production in each city.
