Attitude Pictures have today announced that Para Athlete and world record holder Lisa Adams will be highlighted in a one-hour documentary this Sunday, 22nd August, 12pm on TVNZ 1. Adams currently holds the world record for F37 para shot put and is currently in Tokyo preparing for the 2020 Paralympic Games where she’ll represent New Zealand.
The documentary, Attitude Special: Lisa Adams – Para Athlete, follows Adams on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, coached by sister and Olympic gold medallist Dame Valerie Adams. Scouted by an NZ Para Athletics coach in 2018, Adams spent the next two years training, with a devastating blow dealt when the global pandemic took hold and forced the games to be pushed back.
On Adams’ incredible success over the past two years, Attitude Pictures CEO Dan Buckingham: “We started filming with Lisa in 2019 because, like many others, we could see early on that Lisa was a rising star. However, as well as her growth in the sporting arena it's been a privilege to see her develop into a leader within the greater New Zealand Paralympic team and to witness the opportunities and richness sport can bring to one’s life. Soon to be a household name, Lisa is on the cusp of becoming another Kiwi track and field rockstar.”
Adams was diagnosed with left hemiplegia, a form of Cerebral Palsy, at an early age. Growing up playing netball and basketball, she went on to play able-bodied rugby in 2017 with the Waikite Women’s team, helping the team win the Baywide competition in Aotearoa. The following year she became the first woman to play with the New Zealand national team at the Physical Disability Rugby League Commonwealth Championship, with the team coming in second.
Although she only picked up shotput in 2018, Adams won her first world title in 2019 with a world record throw of 14.70m at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai. She broke her own record at the 2020 New Zealand Track and Field Championships, throwing an incredible 15.28m.
Adams comes from a family of Kiwi sporting legends, with sister and coach Dame Valerie Adams holding multiple international titles and four medals from four consecutive Olympic Games. Her brother Steven Adams is a professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Attitude’s one hour special on Adams’ road to Tokyo precedes the commencement of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with the Opening Ceremony for the games kicking off on August 24th. Attitude is also producing a daily highlights show of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on TVNZ 1 during the games with the first show on Thursday 26 August at 9am, with live coverage televised on TVNZ DUKE and live-streamed through TVNZ OnDemand.
