KIWI DRUM & BASS ARTIST MYLEN RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘WALLS’ WITH C:RCLE AND HOUNDEYE
Today marks the release of Drum & Bass/Electronic/Dance infused single ‘Walls’ - from New Zealand’s Mylen, aka Cameron Mills. The track is in collaboration with Slovakian-based artist C:rcle, featuring American vocalist Houndeye. Releasing under Dutch label Liquicity Records, the single is both Mylen and C:rcle’s first release on this prestigious label and is truly a collaborative, international piece of work that has been years in the making.
Auckland-based producer Mylen began his journey as an artist in 2017 in Dunedin, New Zealand. His affinity with Drum & Bass became quickly apparent as the young artist saw himself on lineups with some of the biggest names in the industry. His talent has seen him perform at iconic New Zealand music festivals, embark on headline tours, a ‘New Zealand's Best DJ’ nomination and single releases on international labels, which he continues to do with ‘Walls’. Showing no signs of slowing down the young kiwi has already gained support from the likes of Andromedik, T & Sugah and Lee Mvtthews, and is best known for his hits ‘Hearts Locked’ and ‘Twilight Zone.’
These singles both made an appearance in the NZ Hot 40 Singles Charts, and amassed over half a million streams. With his own fortnightly residency on Aotearoa’s iconic dance music station George FM, Mylen has now had 3 singles playlisted in the George FM A-rotation, cementing himself as a name to pay attention to in the Drum & Bass music space.
‘Walls’ sees Mylen collaborate with C:ircle, who is easily the most prominent female Drum & Bass DJ in Slovakia, regularly playing some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Her previous singles have received the support of international record label and ‘home of bass music since 2009’ UKF, garnered praise from some of the biggest names in the genre, and quickly illustrated her production talent. The track also features a regular on Liquicity Records, Houndeye, who has quickly risen to stardom in 2024 after collaborating with Dutch artist Lexurus on their track ‘Cold Divide.’ This record will be Houndeye’s second collaboration with Mylen following their single ‘Who You Are’ in 2023.

SAM CULLEN’s sound is far from what you might expect of a 24-year-old born and raised on the edge of the world in Invercargill. TEASER POSTER REVEALED FOR TINĀ FOLLOWING ITS WORLD PREMIERE AT THE HAWAI’I INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Fresh from its world premiere as the opening night feature at the 44th Hawai’i International Film Festival, the teaser poster for new kiwi film Tinā has today been unveiled. Kiwi audiences will be able to see the film across the motu when it's released in February 2025.
The much anticipated local feature film Tinā, is the directorial debut of director Miki Magasiva, received a rapturous welcome at its sold out world premiere screening this week at the annual festival which celebrates Asian-Pacific cinema. This year the festival sees 92 features, 114 short films, and major awards presented for guests including Jimmy O Yang, Hong Kong’s Sandra Ng, and documentary filmmaking star Stanley Nelson. The glamorous opening reception at the iconic Halekulani Hotel saw a strong showing of kiwi star power and support with actors Dave Fane, Robbie Magasiva and Alex Tarrant joining the cast and crew to celebrate.
“To have the world premiere of Tinā, open the Hawaii International Film Festival was incredible.” says director Miki Magasiva. “I am still coming to terms that after years of creating this story for my family, my community and for all the people, we are finally so close to sharing it with everyone in Aotearoa.”
Tinā is an inspiring, heartwarming and humorous drama that follows the story of Samoan teacher Mareta Percival. Struggling after the death of her daughter in the Christchurch earthquakes, Mareta reluctantly takes on a role as a substitute teacher at an elite private school and is surprised to find children in desperate need of guidance, inspiration, and love.
The lead role is portrayed by Samoan actress Anapela Polataivao (Our Flag Means Death, Night Shift, The Breaker Upperers) who plays the role of Mareta along with newcomer Antonia Robinson, in the role of Sophie. The rest of the supporting cast include Beulah Koale (Hawai’i Five-0, Next Goal Wins, Bad Behaviour) and Nicole Whippy (Outrageous Fortune, Shortland Street).
The film features a powerful choir, lead off screen by Choir Master and Music Arranger Tuilagi Dr Igelese Ete. Dr Ete is renowned for his work as the New Zealand Choirmaster for Sir Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring; and as the ‘choirmaster’ and music/choral consultant for the Disney Pacific animation Moana.
Tinā is written, directed & produced by Miki Magasiva, and produced by Dan Higgins and Mario Gaoa.

SAILGP GRANDSTAND TO TRANSFORM WYNYARD POINT, WITH THOUSANDS EXPECTED TO SNAP UP TICKETS FOR AUCKLAND’S DEBUT
A purpose-built grandstand will give fans a whole new perspective on sailing, with SailGP unveiling a first look at its Race Stadium for the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland, 18-19 January 2025.
From the shoreline to the skyline, the grandstand will temporarily transform the City of Sails into the City of SailGP, offering world-class race viewing meters above the shore. Fans will experience the global racing championship’s largest fleet to date, with 11 F50 catamarans flying at speeds upwards of 100 kilometres per hour, right in the heart of the inner Waitematā Harbour.
Tickets to SailGP’s hotly-anticipated Auckland debut go on general public sale today (Wednesday 25 September) at noon. Demand is expected to be high, after a limited pre-sale release yesterday saw thousands of tickets snapped up in hours.

FORMER WORLD NO 1 OSAKA RETURNS TO AUCKLAND’S ASB CLASSIC COURTS
Former World No 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner, Naomi Osaka, will return to the ASB Classic in Auckland to begin her 2025 pathway back to the top of the world.
The 26-year-old, born in Japan but moved to USA at a young age, made her return to tennis this year after nearly two years which included the birth of her daughter Shai. She will come back to Auckland for the first time since playing at the ASB Tennis Arena in 2017.
“I am looking forward to just embracing the nature of Auckland and of course, playing in a tournament that I have not played in for a long time,” Osaka said.
“I am excited to return to Auckland for the ASB Classic 2025. When I was there last time, I was fortunate to go on a helicopter tour and explore the beaches which I thought were really beautiful."
“My other memory is that Auckland has the best salmon.”
ASB Classic Tournament Director, Nicolas Lamperin said the tournament is excited to host Osaka back in Auckland.
“Naomi is one of the premier players in tennis, with an exciting and hard-hitting game,” he said. “It is always challenging to return to this sport after extensive time away, but Naomi has shown some extremely promising form.
“She has an immensely powerful game and plays an exciting brand of tennis. Many believe Naomi will re-emerge at the top of the sport, and that journey for the 2025 season will start here in Auckland.”
Osaka became the first player in three decades to win each of her first four Grand Slam finals, winning the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 and the US Open in 2018 and 2020, along with titles in Osaka, Beijing and Indian Wells.
It led to her awarded the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year in 2021, and selected to light the cauldron at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“What brought me back to the WTA Tour was wanting to see what I could do. And also, I want Shai to cheer for me when she grows up, so hopefully I have a very long career ahead.”
She made her WTA debut in 2013 and made her first main draw debut in 2014 when she beat Sam Stosur in Stanford in the first round. Osaka was voted newcomer of the year in 2016 when she made her first WTA final in Tokyo and in 2021, she became just the 16th player to win four or more Majors in the Open era.
Osaka enjoyed a promising return to the WTA Tour as she adjusts her life and her game with the addition of a new coach.
“I give myself an A because there was a lot of effort. The results will get there. I am optimistic and just looking forward to the next tournament and look forward to how I can get better.
“The biggest challenge that I have had to overcome since returning to the Tour as a mum is managing time and seeing my time differently. Sometimes I think every minute is very important to me now and maybe before that, I never really felt that way.”
Osaka has become a strong advocate for women’s health concerns, and away from the court she is well known for designing fashion and photography.
She joins New Zealand’s Lulu Sun as the first players confirmed for the tournament, and Lamperin expects to confirm further top-ranked players in the next few weeks.
Lamperin also announced that New Zealand's largest privately-owned real estate agency, Barfoot & Thompson will join as the official ball-kids sponsor.

TRAILER UNVEILED FOR FEATURE DOCUMENTARY TAKI RUA THEATRE - BREAKING BARRIERS
After having its World Premiere at Whānau Marama NZ International Film Festival 2024, the trailer for Taki Rua Theatre - Breaking Barriers, a documentary on kaupapa Māori theatre company Taki Rua Productions, has been unveiled ahead of its nationwide cinema release on Thursday 17th October.
What began as a bold experiment in bicultural partnership between Māori and Pākehā grew into Taki Rua Theatre, the unofficial national Māori theatre company of Aotearoa New Zealand. Against the odds, Taki Rua has survived financial struggles, creative disputes, earthquakes, intolerance, and internal conflicts. Taki Rua Theatre - Breaking Barriers is the debut feature of writer-director Whetū Fala.
Whetū says, “As the latest ensemble of young artists tour the motu (country) performing the latest Māori language theatre production, we witness the deeply personal and politically visionary story of a 30-year struggle to create a truly bicultural force, and the wāhine toa and activists who agitated for a better world.”
Observation, interviews and rare archival footage are combined with fresh adaptations of scenes from groundbreaking Taki Rua dramas including Te Hokina, Purapurawhetū, Whatungarongaro, and Ngā Tangata Toa. These plays originally shocked audiences with raw and incisive social commentary, and remain just as relevant today.
Fast forward to the present day and Taki Rua's Te Kuia Me Te Pūngāwerewere brings Patricia Grace's beloved tale to life in a groundbreaking immersive play. This te reo Māori production captivates children of all ages and language levels, igniting pure joy and cultural connection.

SACHI, comprised of Will Thomas and Nick Chrisp, have risen from teenage friends with a passion for dance music to one of New Zealand’s most celebrated live acts. Rising New Zealand tennis star, Lulu Sun has been rewarded for her meteoric rise in the world rankings as the first feature player named for the 2025 ASB Classic in Auckland.
Fans can secure their tickets from next week with The Classic Club pre-sale beginning on Monday and General Public on sale from Friday August 30, with Sun expected to receive plenty of support for a likely centre-court appearance at the ASB Classic.
The WTA women’s tournament at the ASB Tennis Arena runs from Monday December 30 to Sunday January 5, with the ATP men’s event from Monday 6 to Saturday January 11.
The 23-year-old Sun climbed over 200 places in the world rankings over the last 12 months to a career high 53, the highest singles ranking for a New Zealand player since Marina Erakovic more than a decade ago.
ASB Classic Tournament Director, Nicolas Lamperin said Sun’s superb 2024 season warranted the recognition as the first marquee player named for the tournament.
“It has been a long time since New Zealand has had a player that we can spotlight in singles,” said Lamperin. “Lulu’s rise in the world rankings over the last 12 months especially, has been among the most spectacular of any player on the WTA Tour."
“This deserves not only our support, but it is fitting that Lulu is the first player we are announcing among our marquee players for the 2025 ASB Classic, after becoming the first New Zealand female player in the Open Era to make the Wimbledon quarterfinals."

Sun, who switched her tennis allegiance to her native New Zealand this year, made her debut in the Billie Jean Cup. Her breakthrough WTA main draw win came at Seoul in 2022, and she moved into the world’s top 200 for the first time after winning the ITF title in Brasilia last year.
She has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the rankings accelerated with her remarkable run at Wimbledon this year, going through all three rounds of qualifying and ultimately making it through to the quarterfinals, including wins over former US Open champion Emma Raducanu and Paris Olympics Gold medallist, Qinwen Zheng (CHN).
Sun rose to 53 in the world, with the last New Zealander to be ranked in the world’s top 60 being Erakovic in 2014.
“I feel super-excited and privileged to return to play at the ASB Classic,” said Sun. “I had a great experience and great time at the ASB Classic this year – with the amazing vibrance, energy and all the people in the organisation. So I am super-super excited to play it again."
“This tournament is important because I get to play in front of a home crowd, in front of all the New Zealand fans. I played on Centre Court this year which was super-cool and so to be able to do it again is going to be insane and epic, and I am really looking forward to it.”
Sun said her current ranking is a major boost for her fledgling career.
“I’m going to be able to play more WTA tournaments. It will be a lot easier to schedule in tournaments. It helps if you’re able to schedule better and go to the tournaments where you know in advance where you’re going to go, it helps with preparation and training,” she said after her Wimbledon run ended.
“It will definitely help my development and progress. Even when you’re ranked 80 or 90, it’s really a tough environment because when you’re playing the ITF’s you’re not getting as much money as you do playing the top events like the grand slams or the top WTA events. You have to pay everything by yourself. And this is not exactly a cheap sport,” Sun added.
Lamperin, currently at the US Open, said he is thrilled with the interest from several leading internationals and expects to announce other key signings in the coming weeks. He said the tournament planning is progressing well with tickets set to go on sale next week.
