Auckland Live and Realscape Productions are thrilled to present DARKFIELD’s, internationally acclaimed ground-breaking immersive audio experiences, in New Zealand for the first time. Known for pushing the boundaries of sensory storytelling, DARKFIELD offers audiences a unique theatrical experience that blurs the line between reality and imagination.
Set to debut on Wednesday, May 7th in Aotea Square, DARKFIELD will present two experiences: SÉANCE and FLIGHT. Set inside custom-built shipping containers, these pitch-black environments utilise 360-degree binaural sound and innovative special effects to create thrilling, immersive worlds that challenge the senses and explore the depths of human psychology and perception. Each individual experience lasts between 20 and 25 minutes and will have staggered start times, meaning audiences can move easily to attend both while enjoying an evening in Aotea Square.
DARKFIELD has captivated over half a million audience members globally, with its acclaimed audio experiences featured at major festivals and cities including the Venice Film Festival, BFI London, Tribeca, SXSW, and across the UK, US, Australia and Asia. New Zealand audiences have been eagerly awaiting their turn — and now, after years of anticipation, SÉANCE and FLIGHT will finally open in the heart of Auckland from May 7 to June 8.
“There’s been real anticipation around DARKFIELD coming to Auckland, and we’ve felt it. Partnering with Auckland Live has given us the opportunity to deliver these works with impact — and we’re curious to see how local audiences respond in the dark.” Amy Johnson, Producer, Realscape Productions
ABOUT SÉANCE
SÉANCE is the first DARKFIELD shipping container experience, transforming the interior into a Victorian séance room. Designed to blur the line between what is real and what is imagined, it explores the psychology of a group of people, asking that they believe not only what is happening inside the container, but also in what might be conjured up into the room with them.

KIWI DRUM & BASS ARTIST MYLEN RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘WALLS’ WITH C:RCLE AND HOUNDEYE
Today marks the release of Drum & Bass/Electronic/Dance infused single ‘Walls’ - from New Zealand’s Mylen, aka Cameron Mills. The track is in collaboration with Slovakian-based artist C:rcle, featuring American vocalist Houndeye. Releasing under Dutch label Liquicity Records, the single is both Mylen and C:rcle’s first release on this prestigious label and is truly a collaborative, international piece of work that has been years in the making.
Auckland-based producer Mylen began his journey as an artist in 2017 in Dunedin, New Zealand. His affinity with Drum & Bass became quickly apparent as the young artist saw himself on lineups with some of the biggest names in the industry. His talent has seen him perform at iconic New Zealand music festivals, embark on headline tours, a ‘New Zealand's Best DJ’ nomination and single releases on international labels, which he continues to do with ‘Walls’. Showing no signs of slowing down the young kiwi has already gained support from the likes of Andromedik, T & Sugah and Lee Mvtthews, and is best known for his hits ‘Hearts Locked’ and ‘Twilight Zone.’
These singles both made an appearance in the NZ Hot 40 Singles Charts, and amassed over half a million streams. With his own fortnightly residency on Aotearoa’s iconic dance music station George FM, Mylen has now had 3 singles playlisted in the George FM A-rotation, cementing himself as a name to pay attention to in the Drum & Bass music space.
‘Walls’ sees Mylen collaborate with C:ircle, who is easily the most prominent female Drum & Bass DJ in Slovakia, regularly playing some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Her previous singles have received the support of international record label and ‘home of bass music since 2009’ UKF, garnered praise from some of the biggest names in the genre, and quickly illustrated her production talent. The track also features a regular on Liquicity Records, Houndeye, who has quickly risen to stardom in 2024 after collaborating with Dutch artist Lexurus on their track ‘Cold Divide.’ This record will be Houndeye’s second collaboration with Mylen following their single ‘Who You Are’ in 2023.
“I’m so excited to finally be releasing this record. Houndeye first sent me the vocal in 2022, and it has truly been a labour of love to pull it together. I couldn’t have asked for a better Liquicity debut!” - Mylen (Cameron Mills).
‘Walls’ will be debuted on the Liquicity Records YouTube channel, rolling out on Spotify and all other streaming platforms thereafter.

ONE NZ AND LIVE NATION'S ONES TO WATCH SHOWCASE
The latest instalment of One NZ and Live Nation's upcoming artist showcase, Ones To Watch, has been announced to return to Auckland’s Big Fan this October.
The three up-and-coming artists performing will be Reiki Ruawai, CRYSTAL and Sam Cullen.
REIKI RUAWAI, a bona fide talent in the eclectic music circles of New Zealand, has carved out a niche all his own, transitioning from the natural landscapes of Raglan to the dynamic urbanity of Mt Eden, Auckland. Drawing from his diverse musical influences and experiences, he brings a captivating blend of indie/pop, R&B, infused with the spirit of dance and the depth of soul. With his enchanting vocals and soul-drenched melodies, accompanied by his charismatic presence, Reiki Ruawai is a musical journeyman. He’s quickly gaining recognition as a compelling artist on the rise - his rapidly growing audience of 69k Spotify listeners per month reflects this.
SAM CULLEN’s sound is far from what you might expect of a 24-year-old born and raised on the edge of the world in Invercargill. With genuine lyrics drawn from home and a rock and roll meets pop driving energy, the now Auckland-based artist is a force to be reckoned with. Sam wears his heart on his sleeve with this body of work with songs about growing up and homesickness while figuring himself out a little more. Over the past 4 years, he has steadily climbed the ladder of success; releasing three EP’s, playing on some of New Zealand’s biggest stages (including the main stage at R&V), selling out a number of headline shows and playing support slots around the country. Following a massive 10-date solo tour of NZ in 2023, this next era introduces a 5-piece live band that brings an incomparable onstage energy.
Hailing from Te Whanganui-a-tara and now based in Tāmaki Makaurau, is the upcoming alternative pop artist and producer CRYSTAL. Bringing introspective lyricism to the forefront in a blend of pop, electronic and indie, CRYSTAL uses her platform to create music which navigates the hardships of growing up and the pressures of expectation. Having always been drawn to music and anything creative, she started her music project in 2019 playing notable festivals Cuba Dupa and Newtown Festival before having released any music online. 2024 has been a big year for the artist, having featured as an “up-and-coming Aotearoa artist”on Rolling Stone Australia, making her mark on Auckland’s live music scene opening for artists including Somber Hills, Frankie Venter and skinnyandsoft, and most importantly, releasing her latest EP ‘Dead Ends’ - CRYSTAL is solidifying herself as one of Aotearoa's most exciting new artists on the rise.
Following a successful year of showcases throughout Tamaki Makaurau and most recently Pōneke, Wellington, Ones To Watch returns to Auckland’s live music venue Big Fan with a hand-picked lineup of stellar talent. Ones To Watch is consistently highlighting the flourishing music scene in Aotearoa. Since inception, the programme has an incredible slate of musicians under its belt. A variety of genres have been featured, from pop to indie, rock to hip hop, showcasing Aotearoa’s best when it comes to local music.
Launched in 2017 in the United States, ONES TO WATCH has helped boost the careers of artists now reaching global stages, including international superstars Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa and Gracie Abrams, as well as kiwi trailblazers Benee, LEISURE and Georgia Lines.
Past artists are added to the Ones To Watch homepage, where updates and information on them is regularly updated, exposing them to a wide audience of music lovers worldwide.
After launching an exclusive long-term partnership in 2019, Live Nation Australasia and One New Zealand have provided One NZ customers access to Live Nation’s entertainment portfolio including music, family and comedy tours and festivals across the country. The strategic multi-year partnership is committed to bringing the best live experiences to New Zealand and the best New Zealand artists to the world. The unique emerging talent platform of ONES TO WATCH builds on this strong partnership and a mutual dedication to support grassroots initiatives.

FORMER WORLD NO 1 OSAKA RETURNS TO AUCKLAND’S ASB CLASSIC COURTS
Former World No 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner, Naomi Osaka, will return to the ASB Classic in Auckland to begin her 2025 pathway back to the top of the world.
The 26-year-old, born in Japan but moved to USA at a young age, made her return to tennis this year after nearly two years which included the birth of her daughter Shai. She will come back to Auckland for the first time since playing at the ASB Tennis Arena in 2017.
“I am looking forward to just embracing the nature of Auckland and of course, playing in a tournament that I have not played in for a long time,” Osaka said.
“I am excited to return to Auckland for the ASB Classic 2025. When I was there last time, I was fortunate to go on a helicopter tour and explore the beaches which I thought were really beautiful."
“My other memory is that Auckland has the best salmon.”
ASB Classic Tournament Director, Nicolas Lamperin said the tournament is excited to host Osaka back in Auckland.
“Naomi is one of the premier players in tennis, with an exciting and hard-hitting game,” he said. “It is always challenging to return to this sport after extensive time away, but Naomi has shown some extremely promising form.
“She has an immensely powerful game and plays an exciting brand of tennis. Many believe Naomi will re-emerge at the top of the sport, and that journey for the 2025 season will start here in Auckland.”
Osaka became the first player in three decades to win each of her first four Grand Slam finals, winning the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 and the US Open in 2018 and 2020, along with titles in Osaka, Beijing and Indian Wells.
It led to her awarded the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year in 2021, and selected to light the cauldron at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“What brought me back to the WTA Tour was wanting to see what I could do. And also, I want Shai to cheer for me when she grows up, so hopefully I have a very long career ahead.”
She made her WTA debut in 2013 and made her first main draw debut in 2014 when she beat Sam Stosur in Stanford in the first round. Osaka was voted newcomer of the year in 2016 when she made her first WTA final in Tokyo and in 2021, she became just the 16th player to win four or more Majors in the Open era.
Osaka enjoyed a promising return to the WTA Tour as she adjusts her life and her game with the addition of a new coach.
“I give myself an A because there was a lot of effort. The results will get there. I am optimistic and just looking forward to the next tournament and look forward to how I can get better.
“The biggest challenge that I have had to overcome since returning to the Tour as a mum is managing time and seeing my time differently. Sometimes I think every minute is very important to me now and maybe before that, I never really felt that way.”
Osaka has become a strong advocate for women’s health concerns, and away from the court she is well known for designing fashion and photography.
She joins New Zealand’s Lulu Sun as the first players confirmed for the tournament, and Lamperin expects to confirm further top-ranked players in the next few weeks.
Lamperin also announced that New Zealand's largest privately-owned real estate agency, Barfoot & Thompson will join as the official ball-kids sponsor.
Barfoot & Thompson Managing Director, Peter Thompson, says: “We’re genuinely excited to partner with the ASB Classic and support an outstanding event that so many Aucklanders and visitors look forward to each year. Tennis is a terrific sport that embodies commitment and hard work, and we applaud the players who reach this level—they are not only incredible athletes but also fantastic role models.
“At Barfoot & Thompson, one of our key drivers is to back the things that make Auckland a great place to live, and the ASB Classic is certainly one of those highlights. It’s a privilege to be part of something that not only showcases world-class tennis but also brings our community together. We’re proud to be involved, and look forward to the energy and excitement it brings to our city every summer.”

TRAILER UNVEILED FOR FEATURE DOCUMENTARY TAKI RUA THEATRE - BREAKING BARRIERS
After having its World Premiere at Whānau Marama NZ International Film Festival 2024, the trailer for Taki Rua Theatre - Breaking Barriers, a documentary on kaupapa Māori theatre company Taki Rua Productions, has been unveiled ahead of its nationwide cinema release on Thursday 17th October.
What began as a bold experiment in bicultural partnership between Māori and Pākehā grew into Taki Rua Theatre, the unofficial national Māori theatre company of Aotearoa New Zealand. Against the odds, Taki Rua has survived financial struggles, creative disputes, earthquakes, intolerance, and internal conflicts. Taki Rua Theatre - Breaking Barriers is the debut feature of writer-director Whetū Fala.
Whetū says, “As the latest ensemble of young artists tour the motu (country) performing the latest Māori language theatre production, we witness the deeply personal and politically visionary story of a 30-year struggle to create a truly bicultural force, and the wāhine toa and activists who agitated for a better world.”
Observation, interviews and rare archival footage are combined with fresh adaptations of scenes from groundbreaking Taki Rua dramas including Te Hokina, Purapurawhetū, Whatungarongaro, and Ngā Tangata Toa. These plays originally shocked audiences with raw and incisive social commentary, and remain just as relevant today.
Fast forward to the present day and Taki Rua's Te Kuia Me Te Pūngāwerewere brings Patricia Grace's beloved tale to life in a groundbreaking immersive play. This te reo Māori production captivates children of all ages and language levels, igniting pure joy and cultural connection.
Taki Rua Theatre – Breaking Barriers is an inspiring documentary that chronicles how a daring ensemble of artists and activists shattered cultural norms, broke barriers and pioneered a bicultural partnership. Their bold vision revitalises Māori language for new generations and has launched our creatives onto the world stage.
Taki Rua Theatre - Breaking Barriers is out in cinemas across Aotearoa from Thursday 17 October.
GOLDEN LIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH BECKY HILL, LUUDE & MORE
The big dance in the bright lights of Auckland just got brighter, with the return of the annual GOLDEN LIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL, held on the expansive outer fields of Waitakere’s Trusts Arena, on Friday 10th January 2025.
After her triumphant performance earlier this year at Golden Lights, BECKY HILL returns to the outdoor fields of Trusts Arena. No stranger to the big stage, Becky Hill doesn’t do rules. A hit machine since her teens, the pop powerhouse has forged her own particular path to fame. As successful as a songwriter as she is as an artist, as fierce behind the scenes as she is on stage and as credible as she is commercial, Becky Hill has become one of Britain’s most successful musicians entirely on her own terms. Expect to hear her full back catalogue of hits, including ‘Disconnect’, ‘Crazy What Love Can Do’, ‘Remember (with David Guetta)’ and more.
Tasmanian born, Perth Raised, Gold-Coast based Christian Benson aka LUUDE has quickly risen to the forefront of a new wave of producers coming out of Australia. An artist who is consistently evolving and finding success across multiple endeavors. His 2021 version of Australian classic ‘Down Under’ quickly rose to the top of the charts across the globe. All further testament to his abilities as a production powerhouse and tastemaker of the next sound, who finds success in everything he is doing.
Amsterdam-born, London-based JYOTY’s rise to becoming one of the underground's most loved figures is a story of sheer dedication. Considered by many as being at the forefront of her own movement, Jyoty has become a trailblazer in dance music globally. From her beginnings in radio; now eight years on London’s Rinse FM, to headlining festivals and hosting sold out stages around the world. Jyoty’s inimitable skill as a DJ, musical selector, curator and interviewer has won her a following world over.
SACHI, comprised of Will Thomas and Nick Chrisp, have risen from teenage friends with a passion for dance music to one of New Zealand’s most celebrated live acts. Known for their dynamic festival performances, they made history as the first New Zealand act to play Belgium’s Tomorrowland in 2022. Their breakthrough came when they handed Diplo a USB of their music, leading to his support on BBC Radio 1. This exposure propelled SACHI to fame with platinum singles ‘No More’ and ‘Shelter’, and a remix of Lorde’s ‘Green Light’.
GIRLS DON’T SYNC are an all-female group of DJs, producers and curators who are bringing much needed inclusivity and energy to underrepresented dancefloors worldwide. Matty Chiabi, Sophia Violet, Hannah Lynch and G33 came together to form Girls Don’t Sync in summer 2021, and exploded onto the scene soon after with one of the most-watched Mixmag Lab’s of the year. Their fresh take on UKG, house and bass has made them a must-see act at the likes of Glastonbury, Boomtown, Parklife, Lost & Found and many more this year, winning fans around the world for their boundless energy and the unforgettable atmosphere they create with each performance.
“We are looking forward to bringing the gold standard festival experience back to Henderson. Becky Hill was such a hit last year, we are very excited to bring her back for her North Island exclusive appearance.” Kyle Bell - Head of Marketing at Endeavour Live.
Golden Lights is proud to support the Starship Foundation once again as the official charity of the festival.
